I have the same cupholder from Inventa Concepts as well; it is actually made by a fellow rennlister and we had a group buy a year or so ago. A search may provide more info.
As far as spillages, I have had none whatsoever. The holder is well-engineered, heavy and sturdily crafted. My only complaint is that it does eventually work loose...probably due to being bombarded with backpacks and little feet etc.
