Wearing sunglasses makes me a poseur? I'm sorry that I like to keep the glare out of my eyes.

Nick,

You sunglasses-wearing poseur you! Haven't you read Vic Elford's High Performance Driving handbook where he says that he absolutely won't wear shades? Something about driving out of the sun and into the shade, and he couldn't see the road as well as he thought he should. Vic recommends not wearing shades, or if you must, to wear polarized shades.

Of course, I'm one to talk. I almost got heat stroke driving around a crowded shopping mall on a hot day, with the top down and my shades on. Reckon I'm just a poseur at heart, but an enthusiastic one at that.

Take care!

Melissa,

Anyway, on to my point: I think if I were a poseur, I'd sell the Porsche and get myself a Vette, 'cause that's what impresses everyone else
People in the US drool over the Corvette because its more popular, more in touch with the masses. Same here in the UK, many people will prefer a Subaru Impreza rather than a 911.

I guess you could say I'm a snob, but in my opinion the 911 is a more refined choice, not as common. I like that, its harder to apreciate, requires a true enthusiast!

Bill,
Do you do many CVR DE events? If so, we may well have met! I drive a black 944 turbo, #777 in the white group.

John, our paths have probably crossed and we didn't know it. This year I was at many CVR events working the tech line and driving (#370) in white most of the season, and next year I'll be working as safety chair and in black with the C2.

I'll bet there will be a few people that buy that new Porsche SUV that will be put in the poseur catagory...

I'm sure there will be a few die hard Porsche owners who will buy the SUV to tow their race car to the track, but I bet that won't be the case for the majority of those trucks.

How many of those SUV owners do you think will flash their lights at fellow 9xx owners?

Melissa you get some great threads going!

I mean when is the last time that someone had to break open Webster's for a Rennlist thread!

Remember the joke about the diff between a Porsche and a porcupine.... Well the folks in that joke's answer were definitely Poseurs!

True Porsche folks, and they cover the spectrum, enjoy their cars for themselves - whatever the reason - vs. strutting for the "audience". Although I suppose we all have to admit, there may be some who look at our cars with the same feelings I had for all the years I looked at Porsche's before I bought my first one. (Most of that was at the track) Back then, I only thought I knew why I wanted one.

And George, I too want to thank you for your post. Nice picture of a true enthusiast! Down here in P-cola Fl, I can drive virtually year round with the top down. Its my daily driver, and I'm up to about 15 different ways to get to work, just depending on the mood. My daughter was like your sons, hearing those sweet engine sounds, as I re-enter the neighborhood. My favorite route is definitely not the quickest.
To borrow from Robert Frost:
"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood
And I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference"
I think he would have been a Porsche Enthusiast! We enjoy those "...roads less traveled by..."
