1992 Carrera RS
We're in Europe on holiday and have located a '92 Carrera RS in Germany.
The car appears right, chassis and engine numbers are correct for the series, wheels are by SM.
Anyone know what it takes to bring this car into the US? As its was never (to my knowledge) sold in the US I would like to understand any emissions or safety issues beyond lighting, etc.
Please email at artherstrasse@yahoo.com if you have any info.
Thanks,

There is a "federalization" process that exists to import a car into the USA that was not originally sold for the USA market. It involves bringing the car up to EPA/DOT specs. For a 1992 Carrera RS the cost would be extremely high and the car would be butchered beyond recognition from it's original "pure" form such as addition of airbags, removal of light glass, change of bumpers, ride height, this list goes on and on.
If the car was a Cup or clubsport it could be imported under a racing exemption but it could never be titled for public road use.
One alternative to explore is for "show and display" exemption. The car can be imported but there are usage and mileage limitations. The 993 RS has been successfully imported under this class.

Contact Steve Patti, he is selling his 964RS Club Sport. I believe his email, this is it on EBAY right now http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=10156
His website site, www.euro-rs.com and email is info@euro-rs.com. He has brought over a few and federalized them, he would be a gret source.

Steve's car is a clubsport and was imported under racing exemption, so it can never be registered for road use. It's still a great car any way you look at it.
