964 widebody
Can someone give me details about the non-turbo 964 widebody cars? How common/rare are these? What years were they produced? Specs? Details? Thanks.

I'm not certain about the coupes, but the Cabriolet's are fairly rare. 250 made total as a 40 year anniversary of the 1952 Roadster. Granted they made 283 959's, but the Roadster isn't that rare. 1992 from what I understand is the model year, but I'm told that some were produced in 92 and 93. Again I don't know about the Coupes but I have a fair amount of literature on the America Roadster if you're interested. Turbo suspension, turbo brakes, turbo body, but normal aspirited engine. They didn't have rear seats. Rather there is are two storage compartments.

Adding to 1of250's response and going only from memory of what I have read, my understanding is that the American Roadster is identical to the Rest of World widebody cabriolet and both were produced in 1992 and 1993. The USA count was 250 but the total world wide was greater than this; I'd guess it would be less than double the USA count but I don't recall exactly. As 1of250 indicates it has turbo suspension, brakes (and wheels).
The other widebody is the coupe which I think was produced only in 1994 as an anniversary model and I think exactly 911 of these were manufactured. In contrast to the cabriolet model, I think it only has the standard brakes and suspension even though it has the turbo body and wheels.

Not sure what year it was produced, but there was a 964 C4 Widebody. Looks like a Turbo without the tail. There is a Polar Silver one a few streets over from where I live.

Sorry... I should have been more clear. I'm interested in the coupe, not the cab. I believe you're right, it was an anniversary model in '93. Some of the pics I've seen show it with only "911" on the rear, as opposed to "carrera".
I searched Google for "964 WTL" with no results. Anyone else have pic links?

There is off course the '30 jahre 911' edition, which has a widebody (but no turbo suspension of brakes) and 911 script on the rear. 911 were made in 1993.
In 1993 you could order the widebody as an option, but as far as I know, they are rare. I've seen less widebody optioned cars, then '30 jahre 911' editions. As far as I know, the WTL had no turbo suspension or brake either, but this was available as an option. I don't know if it was an option for the '30 jahre 911' edition, but I have never seen one with turbo suspension and brakes, so therefor I suspect that it wasn't an option on this edition.

The following were the ONLY normally aspirated wide bodies to come out of the factory.
Cabriolet Turbo look (1992)
American Roadster (1992)
911 Anniversary (1993) (C4 Anniversary model, 911 built, 899 delivered)
12 unsold 911 Anniversaries were built up and sold to special customers in 93/94.
911 Carrera 4 Turbo-look USA only (1994)
Speedster (1994) 15 confirmed built or converted.
Option M491 was not offered in 1993 apart for the 911 Anniversaries.
Ciao,
Adrian

Could you explain the differences? I assume the American Roadster was a cabriolet, right? How is that different from the turbo-look cab? You say they are both from '92.
On the coupes... was the anniversary model a C4 only, or could you get it in a C2? Were they the same as the turbo-look C4's from 1994 (aside from badges)? Was there any (non-turbo) widebody 964 C2 model?
Do these widebody models change hands very often? Are they highly collectible, or can they be found reasonably priced now?
Thanks!

Sodly:
A dealer in Chicago recently had 2 1994 C4's for sale within the last 6 months. The cars had average mileage and asking prices in the mid to high $30k range.
So, they do pop up from time to time.

@Adrian: I hate to argue with the 964-guru, but the fact is, I saw a 1993 WTL C4 6 months ago. The previous owner (he was selling it at the time) told me that you could order the WTL C4 with or without upgraded brakes and suspension.
I will try to contact the previous owner to see if he still has some info about this car. There is always the possibility that he lied about the fact that this car was a WTL, instead of a TL... As far as I know it started her life in Germany, so therefor I assume that it wasn't a US spec. car.
@Sodly: The '30 jahre 911' is always a C4.

Dear Dirk,
Please read my post. Porsche did not offer a turbo look C4 outside of what was written in my list. Thgis C4 TL coul dhave been one of the 12 unsold 911s. I believe at least 5 went into German circulation. What people say is one thing, proving it is another. I have recently exposed a number of fakes being sold in Germany including C4 TL and C2 TL coupes. WTL is a term used by a major Porsche dealer in the south of Germany and everyone he sells is a fake. It ain't what you see that counts it is the paperwork and the data in the 964. 999 times out of a thousand when I ask for this it strangely never arrives. To me when somebody says WTL I say "fake". Porsche call them Turbo looks in all their documentation. Anyway proof must be provided by the owner/seller.
