Leaking Factory AC, where start to search?
Hi,
In case of a <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> leaking factory AC, what would be to most repaired part for a 964 which will leak.
Please reply with a drawing of the system when you can.
Thanks,
Arjan

I had the compressor overhauled and re-sealed,and was told by the mechanic this was a common leak although going through archives, there´s lots of other leaks discussed, the pressure switch, the dryer and the condenser, as well as lines, particularly the rubber ones in the engine compartment.

Dear Arjan,
Based on sad experience the following items are in order of leaking. Take your pick where you start. If your mechanic uses a sniffer leak detector the process will be quicker.
Expansion valve (easy access in luggage compartment)
Evaporator or evap lines (not so easy access in luggage compartment)
3-level pressure switch (easy access in luggage compartment)
Compressor (easy access in engine bay)
Condensor mixer or lines (in left hand wheel arch)
Reciever dryer (behind front left wheel in wheel arch).
Now Murphys law says it will be somewhere else but well these are the main areas.
My guess would be expansion valve or evaporator.
Ciao,
Adrian

Hi,
Tuesday night, I visited the "A/C specialist", and the reason I did was the sound I heard in the dashboard when the A/C pump started to run, a ' ssstttttt ' sound lik e tire who was loosing air.
This means often a to low A/C filling.
We did a test with a 'sniffler' no leak traced on the pump, lines, condensor. dryer, evaporator, pressure switch etc.
I lost 400 gramms in 12 months, almost 40% of the complete filling.
The guy tought it would be lost thru hoses wich you can't trace with a sniffler bacause it's such a little bit.
The system worked still o.k. but the cooling was not as great as with a complete filling of 'gas'.
I am happy that nothing seriuos is broken, so I think I go once a year for a 'fill up'.
Thanks for the comment.
