Post Headlight Fixings

In removing and attempting to refit my headlights, I’ve discovered that the threaded fixing tabs in the bottom of the headlight bowls have got very worn threads, and are virtually stripped. Therefore the fixing screws will not tighten up. Anybody know of any ‘tricks of the trade’ or advice to repair these (apart from welding!)?

Thanks.

I had the same problem with one of my lights! My mechanic drilled a larger hole in the fixing tab and attached a type of rivet/new bolt which had a new thread inside of it. I am not quite sure exactly what it was, but it is possible. Your mechanic would probably know how to do it.

Hope this helps!

A common problem, had the same with mine.

I drilled out the threaded hole then glued a new nut on the back of the tab. It is an M5 ISO thread you will get one from your favourite hardware store - in Europe anyway.

Finally solved my problem of the damaged threads. As you can see in the pictures below, I drilled out the threaded holes and inserted an M5 rivet nut. Wasn’t exactly a difficult job, but I was quite nervous about doing it on a car I have only owned for a couple of weeks!
