996 C4S performance
I was looking at the Christophorus magazine #293 whick talks about the new 911 C4S.The time it takes to go from 0 to 1000 meters is 24.1 sec for the 6 speed and 25.2 sec for the tiptronic. And I looked at David Vivian's 'Porsche 911 the complete story'. Inside it quoted the 964's performance- from 0 to 1000 meter it takes 24.6 sec for the C2 and 25.5 for the C4. The new 996 has 320 hp/273 lb.-ft. where the 964 only has 250/228 respectively. Why are the performance figures so close ? On the other hand, hey,I am happy to see that our cars are not too shabby--its pretty quick in fact.
Anybody knows the 0-1000 meters # for the 993s ?

Have a look at the weight figures for the two cars. Absolute power is nothing it is power to weight ratio that matters. Also given that by the end of 1000m the cars will be going rather fast aerodynamic will come in to it too. I am sure the new 996 must be more slippery though.

the 996 4S (like all the turbo bodied cars) has a much larger frontal area - this is a drag at high speed (pardon the pun!).
The 964 is, I think, one of the lowest Cd and frontal area P-cars out there.
