Post Headlight Washers Mystery

My '91 C2 has what appear to be factory headlight washers in the top of the front bumper cover.

In response to the recent posts about headlight washers, when I tried to use my headlight washers by pushing the right stalk forward, I noticed that my stalk doesn't go forward. Comparing the picture of the right stalk in my owner's manual to the one in my car, I found that I don't have a stalk that provides for operation of the headlight washers (the stalk in the owner's manual has two little "pictures" on it, one of a windshield with the "M" shaped stream of water, and one of a headlight with the "M" shaped stream of water - the stalk in my car only has the former picture).

So, I'm guessing that either the previous owner replaced the front bumper cover with a bumper cover that had the headlight washers, or replaced the stalk with a non-headlight washer stalk.

Anyone have any ideas?

Headlight washers were an option. All the scenarios you have mentioned could be correct of course. The only people who would really know are the POs. I would go for the replacement bumper as being most likely.

Hi John,

I would say more likely is that the stalk-colar on your car has been replaced. When I bought my car the intermittent wind-screen wiper was faulty. When I went down to my local OPC to buy a replacement stalk colar (which includes indicator stalk and computer stalk) they had plenty different combinations of stalks for a 964 and I remember that one of the option stalk colars were with-out headlight washers. <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />

There is no stalk you can push forward. There are two options .
When your Headlights are on and you PULL on the right Stalk water sprays to your Windshield AND to your Headlights . Or
There is a little Switch on the Dashboard ,similar to the Clock set switch and in this area , you can push and the water will spray to your Headlight. On a 964 it should be the first option .You can also take off the cover under the AC Cooler on the Bumper and check if the watertank has Two Pumps installed instaed of
one . Than you have Headlightwashers .

Harald,
Your description is not like my 91 C2. I have a stalk on the right that operates the wipers, and this has to be pushed towards the dash, with the headlights on for the washers to work. My washer bottle is inside the front wing and it has two pumps. The switch on the dash, is the intensive washer switch, and it sprays the contents of the intensive washer bottle onto the screen, not the headlamps. Maybe the speedster is different to a regular 964. I know that the RS's are different.

Taj.

I wonder if we have different washer options for us vs. euro spec cars.
