Hi guys thanks for that information,
(damn I didnt receive a notification for your replies !)

Sounds like a meet up and beer is required !!!

Not sure where I will be yet, no plans yet !!! (Australia is my oyster)
Just sold house here, so will be on my way by end of May.

Container - and waiting on Australian Documents to return, then will start to get some quotes, looks like in the £2k mark ! (container) - allowing me to bring some junk with me... ;-)

keep in touch !

Pip

Hi Pip,

I found car insurance far cheaper in Melbourne than in the UK.

In Victoria you have to pay registration each year which costs about the same as Uk road tax, not sure about NSW, but have a look at http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/ for more info.

MOT is called road worthy,

You will also have to resit your drivers test if you are going to live down here!

Servicing costs should be around $75 an hour depending on where you go.

Cheers Dave...
That gives me a ballpark !

I have a mate in Melbourne, so probably come visit at some point, have to catch a beer !

P.S. I emailed "Owners Club in NSW" and got nothing back lol, their site didn't even have a 964 section...so made me laugh !

I am in the process....I have sent of the paperwork to the Australian import office, and waiting a come back, I have had the car for 8 years, its now 15 years old and I'm emigrating "residence visa", so hopefully I'm in a better situation than most !

It would be expensive if I was just buying the car for import and wasn't gonna be living there for good...I guess...

It shouldn't be a problem, my brother in law has shipped 2 Merc's down to Oz from Hong Kong over the last 5 years and the only requirement was for him to empty the gas from the airconditioner, one is a 300SL. Also I gather if the car is over 15 yrs old their is no import tax. I intend to ship mine when we leave here and can't wait to drive it on some long roads.

hi Pip,
I haven't been on here for a few days but i see David has answered some of your questions which is great.
in NSW too you have to pay your rego once a year or you can opt for a half yearly.
befor you can pay your registration to the RTA though, you have to get CTP (compulsory Third Party) Personal insurance from an insurance company of course.
The costs of this vary depending on your driving record, age, is you have comprehensive insurance with the same insurance company etc etc.
you should be looking at between $500 to $1000 max for your CTP and Rego for a year combined.
With comprehensive insurance obviously it would depend but if you have a 60% no claim bonus(not sure if your UK driving record will be taken into consideration (it should) you should be able to insure your car for about $2500/- for a value of about $65000/- to 70000/- this is for a 1992 model 964.
These is just a rough guide but i hope it helps.
cheers
Alan
