I have always carefully read every thread comparing the 964 vs. the 993. Since I have spent the past weekend with my "new" 993 C4S, I think I can offer my humble opinions.
The 964 is a 1990 C2 Cab, blue/cashmere, 121K miles, new 993 sport clutch and flywheel, new 993 seats and interior, 993 top, aero mirrors, euro turn signals and 18" Speedline 3.6 Turbo wheels. Car has just been serviced to the tune of $6K including the clutch and flywheel (and a bunch of oil leak stuff) and is running like a dream.
The 993 is a 1997 C4S, blk/blk, 73K miles, motorsound, RSR muffler, dropped with Eibach springs and 996 TT wheels. Car is also running like a dream.
Now the comparison...the 993 does everything a little better with less drama. Does that make sense? With the 964 being a cab, the 993 feels tighter and more solid and does not jolt me when I pass over bumps. I like the play and engagement point of the sport clutch of my 964 but since it is a 993 clutch, I guess my preference here is still the 993. With the Varoriam (spelling ?) and RSR muffler combining for close to 300 hp, the increased power in the 993 is noticeable but the 964 is still more than sufficient. Without a doubt, the 964 has a more "raw" feel and if I were to track a car, the 964 would be a great choice. But for a daily driver (which neither is) or a weekend "fun" car, I think both are fun. However, IMHO, when I see both cars from the rear in my garage, the C4S is the one for me!

Interesting observations. When I went from my 83SC to the 93C2, the C2 felt far more refined and less raw. There is obviously a refinement/less-raw progression here to the 993. Would that make the 996 even more refined, say like a fast Ford Taraus?
Oops, sorry.

Hey Ruairidh,
As much as I would like to keep both, I am in the process of selling the 964 cab. Even though I have spent over $10K in the past 6 months (@%!#*) to get it exactly the way I wanted it, it would be a shame to have two weekend cars hogging up the garage. My wife wants her space in the garage for her Navigator as soon as possible.
Thanks.
Addison
