Default Which plugs does the distributors fire?

Hey all,
This is a rather stupid question. We have four banks of plugs (1-3 top, 1-3 bottom, 4-6 top, 4-6 bottom), and two distributors (primary and secondary). Which distributors fires which plugs?. Andy

You should be able to trace the top 6 plug wires to the distributor. The lower 6 should match the sequence on the top 6.

Working from memory here... (changed the spark wire set last fall)

I think the secondary dist fires the left lower (cyls 1-3, LH driver's side) and right upper, primary dist fires left upper and right lower.

Pop the engine lid and look, you'll figure it out in 2 minutes or less - wires that go sharply down to the left fire the left lower, wires that go together along the top rear edge of the fan shroud toward the right fire the right lower.

I just did the 75k service last summer and IIRC the wires should have the plug number they go to on them as well.

Mine also has great numbering on the wires. Good thing. Imagine cross-wiring that distributor!

Hey
So I assume that the dist fires one side top and the other side bottom set of plugs is correct?. I traced it before I brought up the question because I was ignorance and paranoid at the same time and thinking that the primary dist will fires the top plugs and secondary fires the bottom plugs. Thanks again for clearing that up. Andy

I mispoke.

The primary distributor fires the lower plugs, the secondary distributor fires the upper plugs.
There should be a sticker in the engine bay nearby the distributors (e.g. along the metal shelf that has the latch for engine lid) that shows which distributor terminals go to which plugs (numbered).
