If you're used to a 951, then the grip off the line in a C2 will surprise you. There's rarely any wheelspin, even with a C2 - mainly because of the difference that an engine slung over the rear wheels makes when you pull away. Weight transfer to the rear enhances the weight distribution even further.

My point is that a C2 will be just as quick off the line - if not quicker due to the ligher weight...

If there is no wheel spin in a C2, there is not enough power!

4WD is going to be a big advantage here

lol yes, 4WD would help a lot. Bottom line 4WD will nail 2WD off the line.

I could spin the heck of my wheels in my 90 if I wanted to. I learned to get good launches though and ran very consistent 0 - 60 times. I think any difference the C4 would make would be 0 - 30 or so, but at around 60, the C2 would be catching up with hp in the 300 range. Now if you had over 400 hp, I think that the C4 would have a definite advantage. I also think if you practice your starts, you can get good launches in a C2 by feathering the clutch a bit. It keep the torque range high and prevents too much wheels spin. Hell on the clutch though.

Guys,

here's a gtechpro 1/4 mile run pdf file from my TPC'd 993 tip. I managed around 12.6s. Also included a run from a 450hp 996 and a M3 for comparison.

Cheers, Mark.

What power/hp was your 993 running at this test? Was it with the intercooler/water injection?
Was the 996 X50? I presume that wasn't a tip - looking at the trace you can see where he changes gear and the difference between your tip with imperceptable shifts and I presume the SMG shift on the M3.
Which model M3, ie power/torque?

Good work there Mark

Tony,

I was running around 320 hp at the wheels (2nd gear tip) maybe a little more with water/methanol 50:50 injection and an increased in boost from standard. I believe the 996 (3rd gear) was an X50 but have attached some powertorque curves from the same tool across the rev range. Please note that these are at the wheel on the road and don't compensate for air resistance/rolling resistance etc. The M3 was a 333hp 2002 model (not sure which gear as it had a strange rpm curve) thats all I know about the others besides my 993.

Cheers, Mark.

FWIW, My '04 GT-3's suposed to run apppx. 12.3/4 secs in the 1/4 mile. And it feels like it will! (I've never timed it) and were talking appx. 320/330 RWHP and just about the same weight.
