Hi P lovers,
I am up to buy secondhand "Sport Classics", 17" wheels (+tires).
The guy who is offering them tells me they are originals. I can not check them as they are about 500 miles away from me. Something is bothering me.
He gave me as details :
Front : 7 x 17" offset 55 tires 205 50 17
Rears : 8.5
x 17" offset 50 tires 225 45 17
Are those the originals or not ?
According to me the originals were :
fronts 7 x 17 offset 55
rears 9 x 17 offset 55
Or are there different sizes in the originals aswell ?
I am also looking for pictures of P cars with the Sport Classics on them. I tried the " search function" but all the pictures are gone.
Maybe somebody can help me out ?
Thanks

Porsche OEM wheels should have a Porsche part number stamped on them somewhere. Perhaps the seller can take pictures of the part numbers so that you can verify that they're OEM.
8.5 inch width OEM rims aren't that unusual. A lot of Boxsters have them, not sure about 911's though.

You can see what they look like by going to the www.porsche.com website, and pick the configurator for the Boxster, choosing 17" sport classics for the wheels. They are Boxster option "xra".
7x17 et 55 sport classic wheels are part number 993.362.124.51, and 8.5x17 et 50 are 993.362.126.55. These are the numbers Drew is referring to.

WSP,
If you have some time look through the albums on Smartgroups:
http://www.smartgroups.com/pictures/listalbums.cfm?GID=696258
Hope this works.

WSP, those are Sport Classic 17" sizes for a Boxster "S", and will fit a bit better than 9" on the rear as there will be much less chance for rubbing, although a 9" wheel usually does NOT rub.
I just bought a set of Sport Classics in the exact size you mentioned, they are mounted on the car, I have pics...but the car is not ready for public viewing as of yet, it's half primered, etc.
Plan to shoot the car the end of next week, we had a slight delay last week when I installed the new front-end.
Another easy way to tell if they are in fact factory wheels is that where the valve stem goes through the wheel YOUR wheels in question should say 7 and 55, rear 85 and 50...PLUS the 993 part# on the rear of the wheel.
...besides, I have yet to see or hear of a Sport Classic "repro -or- copy", so you're probably safe.
