Flywheel\head on a 1994 C2
Were the flywheel and heads leaks, and dual dist. fixed by very late 93 or early 94???
What are other problems to look for?
I checked the model years, a lot before I bought and I thought the 94 was the best buy, as it had most problems ironed out by then
Thanks
Randal

Yes and no. Very few 964s were delivered from the factory with the new distributor assembly and the vent kit. This is an easy fix. The double mass flywheel issues and heads leaking issues were solved in model year 1992 and 1991 respectively.

PS: There are very few genuine 1994 or R series 964s out there. If in the options list there is the number M718 then it is actually a 1993 model brought up to so called 94 spec but it was not built in model year 1994.

I thought late '93s and '94s had the vent kit. But if Adrian says "no" then who I am to argue? (I do know that my '93 with a 12/92 build date did not have a vent kit).
In any event, check out John Miles's site for photos of the vent kit to see if you have one.

This is my VIN
WP0AB2968RS420236
My car was made in 6\1993 How do I tell if it is a 94 or a 93 brought to 94 specs?
The paperwork and Title says 1994 from day one?
Thanks
Randal

Dear Randall,
On the underside the luggage compartment lid (trunk for you guys) there is a label. On this label is your VIN, engine type and at the bottom is the options line starting C02. If one of the numbers is 718 then it was a 1993 model originally. The data I have shows that there were only 456 C2 and C4s for the USA delivered in model year 1994. There were some built after July 31st 1993 making them genuine 1994 models. There were no Targas at all in model year 1994.
On the vent kit, I have never seen a 964 delivered with a vent kit but retrofitting before delivery by dealers did occur. Very few people who own 964s now are original owners from new so it is impossible to know for sure.

Randal, if you have the distributor vent kit, you will have TWO tubes running from the aluminum housing, just below each distributor cap that leads to either your heater down tube or the vent for your tailight assembly.
Check it out.
I'm sure your 94, whether it is a "true" 94 or not is in fine shape in regards to factory updates, etc.
...you're all set!
