Post Mods - whats the limit??

Whilst bored recently, I was skimming through the online FVD catalogue at FVD.DE. Came across their Bi-turbo conversion for the 964 - a snip at 'just' 30,000 Euro (about £20k). Whats the point?? Wouldn't most 'sane' people trade in & buy a 993TT??

Maybe I just don't get it <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Not if you prefer the shape of the 964 and have a good one that you are happy with and want to keep ....either that or I'm nuts (and that is perfectly possible)'cos I'm still thinking 'bout the RUF turbo conversion

John:
Some people just march to a different drummer. They're not crazy; just different. I'd go the 993TT route too, but it's fine with me if some choose to TT their 964 (I don't expect tem to sell a lot of those kits, but they'll sell a few). It contributes to diversity. BTW, my mechanic converted his 914-6 into a 914-8 and I don't consider him insane; just different. His wife tried to get him committed on that basis, but it didn't work.

Ruairidh (the hardest to pronounce name on the forum!!)

I'm just sore that you got Pono's new set of lights!!

Good luck with your RUF conversion, BTW.

p.s. I admit to toying with the idea of a supercharger on my 964 - but I'll probably just save up for a 993TT!

Yep, I blame too much whisky at my christening and a Gaelic speaking family. Through the years I've let it become softened to "Rory" (much to my family's despair)

Sorry 'bout that. Did you see Randall G's advice re: Sunset? That may actually be even cheaper than I paid Pono.

If I was in Europe I think I'd have done it by now - but I'm here and RUF aren't and that scares me. I'll admit part of it would be the vanity element of having a RUF-tuned car (I've always liked the idea of Alois and his band) but that gets outweighed by the "what happens if/when it goes wrong" factor. And I cannot find anyone who has had it done to their car...

Best Wishes

Well, for what it's worth, I'm seriously considering a Protomotive turbo kit once I've saved up the money. My two concerns (other than cost - I need to find a job first)? Firstly (and most importantly), CA smog *****. Secondly, I'm not at all sure of my ability to control a 700HP 964 at the moment - something I need to learn, for sure.

The reason people opt for these upgrade kits (other than liking the car they have) is probably because they give you much more power than you can get from the factory. I mean, I'd love a 993 Turbo S (probably the best-looking car Porsche have ever made, IMO), but I'm sure that wouldn't touch an upgraded 964.
