Post Got my car back!

Well, it took awhile, but I know have the 964 back, complete with new rear end.

I'm pleased I opted for the RS bumper (although when I told a friend about it she said, 'Wot, like an Escort?), and Top Gun has done a superb job – highly recommended.

Sorry about the poor-quality picture, it was shot with my phone.

So, who in the UK is on for a get together while summer's here?

Cheers

Great stuff Phil! I am pursuing my claim on the slight shunt I received from a van a couple of months back. I am going for an RS bumper as well (as there is no real difference in price)

How does the car feel?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

So did you get the claim sorted with the van? Wasn't there as dispute over it?

Note that Top Gun had to do some rejigging of the bamper bar to get the RS one to fit - make sure that's factored into the claim.

Cheers

Phil

Basically, my insurance company are not hopeful that a successful claim can be made. The van merely nudged me so there was no witness to any actual impact. I have photographs of the van, of my car, of the van's towing hook with red paint smudge and witness accounts that the hook lined up exactly against the damage on my car. Apparently, this is all circumstantial.

What actually could have happened was:

I already had the damage. Then I saw the van in my rearview mirror with suitable towing hook at the right height to crack my bumper in the 20 milliseconds or so I had to make the observation. Then as the van stopped, I reversed carefully back into the van at the perfect line in order to line up the hook with the crack. Then I quickly (and unnoticed by the driver of the van) placed a smudge of paint on his towing hook (I had a sample in my car just for this purpose) and took photos of it.

This whole insurance thing is a complete joke. It is in fact fu**ing apalling. But ´hey, they haven't declined my claim yet so I guess I should remain positive right? <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[soapbox]" title="" src="graemlins/soapbox.gif" />

Bugger.

Maybe not actually. From my own happy history with insurance companies I would guess that when you come to renew next year it will go up - because you now have a fault claim. Hopefully you have protected No Claims?

This is why I have £1000 excess on insurance, brings premium down and I know that I'm only covered for 'the big one'!

By the same argument, my rear could have been damaged (let's face it, I did have a drop of condensation in a rear light), and when I saw the Jag in the rearview mirror, I slammed the car into reverse and smashed into him...

I guess I've been very lucky, no probs at all with the insurance (the other fellow's) and they forked out an outrageous amount for the repairs and for me to have a courtesy car for about 5 weeks.

Anyway, hope you get it sorted.

Cheers

Well, I am not sure what a fault claim is? The accident is not my fault and I am tryin to claim from their insurance company. Why would I be penalised?

Anyway, if the claim doesn't go thru them I might consider claiming on my policy. As it a classic car policy there is no NCD anyway (I don't build up NCD with them though it counts towards NCD if I decided to insure it on a non-classic policy).

Sorry - I misunderstood. Thought you meant your insurance company hadn't declined it.

But - FYI - as far as your insurance company is concerned, a fault claim means they can't blame someone else :

A tree fell on me while I was driving along once. When it came to renewal, I was a bit surprised to find that it was my fault!
