I know the question about which motor oil to use pops up fairly often, and I just happened to be perusing an old issue of Excellence when I found an article that gave a good answer. It's in the May 2004 issue and begins on p.155. It's called "Motor Oil for Older Porsches". It includes a table listing the factory approved oils for 1973-1998 Porsches. I don't have a scanner or I'd post it myself. Just thought this might help to answer a few questions in the future.

I've posted this previously, I believe on the 911 forum, perhaps here too, may want to do a search. In Europe, Porsche has published a more recent list than in NA.
