Odd Sound
I just noticed this weekend that when my 90 C2 Cab is cold and I ease off of the clutch from a dead stop in first or reverse I hear slight growning sound. Bad description I know but has anyone experienced anything similar. It is not coming from the motor as I can't replicate it without shifting.
Thanks

I have had this. It turned out to be a dry bearing in the clutch/flywheel mechanism. I believe it was called the spigot or throw out bearing. Mine was making the sound after a new clutch was fitted last year. Unfortunately for you mine was solved by taking the whole thing apart again and replacing/lubing. Hopefully this isn't the case for you as it would mean some hours labour.
There are other causes though I am sure - perhaps someone else has had the same experience with a different outcome?

I have also noticed that sound only when the car is very cold, like just after starting it and backing out of the garage. It always goes away when the car is warm. I would like to know if this is something to worry about since it goes away...

My car was showing some of the same symptoms after a clutch replacement. I could never seem to replicate the problem for my mechanic, and it would only occur every once in a while, so I chose to ignore it. Amazingly enough, it eventually went away. It's been the cheapest fix I've ever had . . . if only my running problems would just "disappear" as well!
My car does the same thing. It is sporatic and does not really have any rhyme or reason as to when it does this. It is a very unhealthy sound. I've posted it on the board here before but no one really was able to identify the problem seemingly.

No one could give me a definitive answer unfortunately. At first they said it was the clutch beginning to go. Then they said it was just a vibration of some sort. The formal answer was "you don't seem to have a problem at this time". And I responded, "I may have a problem later?" And they just looked at me with a blank stare.
Interesting development. I paid close attention to this noise over the weekend and realized that it seems to dissapear as soon as the oil temp guage hits the first bar. Can anyone explain to me the lubrication system of the gears in the 964? Is there anything unusual about the way the plumbing works that I should look into?
