Post Removing spoiler grill

Hi,
I've just had some paintwork done on my car to fix a previously bad job (which was done by a different paint shop) and to get rid of the stone chips etc. on the bonnet.

It's come out so well that I've booked it in to have the other panels done in a couple of months time. But I'm using a local one man outfit (was recommended to me) and he's not all that familiar with 964s.

To paint the rear spoiler, he will need to remove the black plastic grill from the coloured surround. But when I was getting the quote and he was checking over the car, neither of us could see how. Anyone know?

From the "Wall repair" pictures it looks like the spoiler grille is held in with speednuts. This picture: Rear Deck Parts Picture looks like you can't disconnect the grill and wing surround.

good luck.

That's odd. From the wall repair picture it does look like speednuts, but when I look at the underneath of my grill I can't see those. I can see "indents" in the black plastic there - almost like something is pressing against the inside of the plastic, but nothing actually holding it on.

I'll take another look tonight, unless anyone else has a suggestion? I've seen the picture Carl added - I was hoping that means the spoiler is one part rather than that it can't be separated.

Looks like the paint shop may need to mask the grill off.

Thanks for the replies,

I know it must be removeable as I have seen the replacement grills for sale with blurb that suggests a quick exchange.

Does the parts diagram help?

There is only a single part number given for the "spoiler with grille" in the schematic. I believe the grille is bonded to the spoiler and is not removable. My car was pretty much stripped for a respray - but the rear spoiler grille was left in place and just masked.

Regards

It's glued in -don't try it!!

Had mine masked off for re-spray -no problem.
