Hi guys,

The bypass came today.
2 questions.

it has 2 threaded holes in it. one is for the sensor there is nothing to put in the other so should I blank it off with a bolt? see pic.

and the second I took the wheel of and had a look at the condition of the bolts and sensor. they seem prety well rusted in place. Im waiting till the car cools down and them im gona try and remove the sensor.is it ok to put some penetrating oil on there or will that mess up the sensor?

I think im goning to have trouble getting this off hate to sound defeatist but i recon on rounding a few of the nuts off

Pesty, i've been told by a specialist that you get about 1 in 10 of the sensors out in one piece . Its almost impossible to get them out in working order . They have a pretty hard life living in that cat!

I have a sensorless bypass pipe, but it does make the car run rather rich . And you need an ecu code plag and another loop plug to connect the two wires that you'll have snipped off from the sensor.

If i was you, i'd buy a new sensor and plug it into the new pipe.
just my $0.02

yeah greg that seems like teh best option. just looking around now to see where the best place to get one.

Ive just found this.
http://www.justoffbase.co.uk/s.nl?c=317638&it=A&id=7024

might give that a go first as design 911 want 112+vat and postage for the sensor.

Pesty,

Bert Gear at Berlyn Services (http://partsforporsche.co.uk) has them for around £82 + VAT.

I'd strongly recommend a new one since it's unlikely the old one will be serviceable - even if you DO get it out.

Regards

Dave

O2 sensor arrived today from that place. if weather is reasonable tomorrow I will have another crack at fitting it.
Anyone think of any tips or difficulties I should be aware of ? Seems pretty streightforward to me. ( but then so did my speedo )

I did mine last fall, and took the advice of someone else on Rennlist: Buy the O2 sensor socket.

I picked one up at a local autoparts place (US$10 or so). If I recall, it fits a 1/2" ratchet, which I then used with a pretty long 1/2" torque wrench. The old sensor came out with little fuss.

Then again, I live in a desert climate, so the old sensor was not rusted in place.

But either way, the 02 sensor socket makes it a lot easier to deal with.

Best Regards,

Brian

Right fitted it today

two things.

There is a slight leak from teh o-ring/clamp from teh bypass to the primary is this a problem? will it seal itself?

and also I for got to put the heat sheild back on the side thats inbetween teh bypass and the engine. Is this a prob? should I take it all off again and put that on?

first impressions after a quick blat. I havnt notice a jump in power but it is louder. Actualy its a slightly different tone now as well. A little more high pitch at hugh revs.

the hardest part was connecting the new oxygen sensor it took me longer to do that then fit the bloody cat bypass thank god for nut splitters
