ps wheres the best place to buy a cat bypass
I had my Cat bypass fitted well before my remap, and did not suffer any ill effects, of course it sounded better, and i felt it a bit more responsive ( it may have been wishful thinking over anything else mind you).

Anyway I got my bypass from design911, very good quality in my "limited" experience. I have links to their site (amongst others) on my website, here is a direct link to the correct page.

Al,

Did you initially just replace the CAT? Did you notice much difference in the exhaust note?

Hooo yesss, there is a great difference in the exhaust note.

Hi Andy,

I had already done the primary "cup" bypass, at which time i was running at approx 102 db, after the cat bypass I am up to 105 db, which is a problem on some UK trackdays. Sounds great, and is not to noisy internallly, the volume is only while you have your foot pressed hard on the "loud pedal".

I thought there were two reasons for removing the cat, on older cars they can become blocked up and reduce performance and also that the engine is easier to chip with the cat removed. This might be total rubbish, but i thought i'd read it somewhere.

When I had mine serviced last July, I was told that the CAT was breaking down & will need replacing soon. Hence my reason to replace it. Think I've made my mind up that it's got to be done!

Ok which one to get and why the diference in tube diameter.

Cargraphic sell one that looks like just a streight pipe and will come in at around £206

design 911 sell one that goes wider in the middle for around £300 with vat and postage. looking around FVD seem to sell the same one and if my math is correct will cost around the same at about £209 depending on exchange rate.

So which one to get? they both cost the same only one goes wider in the middle. any difference?

pic below -on the right is the cargraphic bypass pipe (the pic on the left is not a bypass) dont have a pic of teh design 911 one

I'm not sure of the differences, but all I know is to get one that has the plug for the 02 sensor.

IMHO, the fat one is trying to look like you still have a cat......not that anyone would be trying to pull one over on the MOT, DOT, or DMV inspectors, right?

Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink.

Another option is: http://members.aol.com/SportsCarConvert/index.html

No experience with the product but they are certainly cheaper than a new cat.

Pesty,

The third one you posted is designed to "look" like the original cat. The photo looks like it's the Dansk unit which, if correct, actually has "some" silencer internals rather than just a straight through pipe. Advantage is a little less sound - better if you are fitting a non-standard or bypass exhaust too. The Dansk unit DOES have the fittings for the O2 sensor. Availalble in the UK from www.design911.co.uk

Design 911 also sell a bypass from Scart. It's much cheaper (around £169 + VAT) but looks like it doesn't have the O2 fitting although Design 911 could confirm this I'm sure. This one looks like it IS a straight through pipe.

It's important that you have the O2 fitting unless you modify the DME to cope without it otherwise the engine will run in a permanent rich mode. BTW, you will almost certainly have to fit a new O2 sensor - they don't come out easy!!!

Regards

Dave

Thnaks for the info. I will have a look at how easy this is to change just in case I have probs. With my recent exerience with the speedo I'm not feeling so confident these days with DIY jobs.

Just my .02 , when I installed the straight pipe in place of cat, I lost low end grunt off of corners, but gained a ton on the top end. Depending on track I can make it work for me. 92 euro 964 cup car
