Finally got around to cleaning my lens over the weekend. While I had them out, I went ahead and installed SilverStars. The combination of clear glass and whiter lights is a huge improvement. I should have done it a long time ago.
I'm sure they're not as good as H4's, but still not bad.

Its been about 3 months since this post and I was wondering how the reviews are on the Silver Star conversions after using them for a while?

missed this thread the firsat time around, However, by coincidence I installed these very bulbs last week. When I had one side installed, I switched on to do a side-by-side comparison - the silverstar were very noticeably brighter. So far so good!

They are awesome - have them on the cabrio, not on the coupe - and it is a big difference between the two cars (or is it that the coupe is so loud that I can't see straight to notice?!
).
I think they are a must-have!!

I did them, pleased.... You can really see the difference when you're riding next to somebody with regular halogens, these are definately whiter. As for seeing more, between the new bulbs AND cleaning the lenses, there is a noticable difference.

I've been running PIAA 9004 bulbs for about 6 months, much brighter than OEM bulbs. No complaints so far. www.piaa.com Whether the PIAAs are better than the Silverstars I can't say.
Sylvania's website FAQ (link here ) indicates Sylvania expects the Silverstar bulbs to have a lifespan "up to one year."
Uggh - the bulbs that Porsche installed at the factory lasted 14 years! And changing bulbs is not particularly fun on the 964 (not difficult, but a lot more work than the 3-5 minutes required for other modern cars including the 993).

I am very pleased with the Silverstars. Make sure you take the time to clean the inside of the lights while you are at it, however. Makes quite a difference in looks.

I switched from the previous owner's illegal 55/100W bulbs, scorched wires and all, to the standard Silverstars and find them entirely adequate; no dimmer, really, than the higher wattage bulbs (probably due to losses in the wiring?) I understand there's some debate about North American vs Euro Silverstars, but the ones I bought at the local Canadian Tire work pretty darn well and weren't very expensive - all in all, a good, cheap upgrade.
