Low mileage insurance (UK)
Guys,
Its getting close to renewal time now ( and MOT ) with the insurance and since i've bought a diesel hack for the day to day commute to lovely Slough i'm looking to put the 964 on a limited mileage policy. Any suggestions/recommendations for companies in the uk? Probably looking to get under 3k a year, only driver, 31 with 5yrs protected NCB and fully comp. Currently with Elephant on 15k a year as above costing £850. My cars a 92 LHD coupe by the way.
Cheers
Giles.

Three Wheelin'
I'm currently with RH Specialists in Essex (0870 111 8962) and am paying around £670/year for a 1993 Turbo 3.6 for 5000 miles a year. I'm 30 (no points - snooper rules!!!) and have the use of two other vehicles (NCB didn't really come into it).
The only stipulations which they were insistant on were proof of a Thatcham Cat 2 fitted for Theft Cover and that if the car was at my home address then it must be garaged between 10pm and 6am. If its was stolen from my drive, if i left it out overnight, then the theft cover would be void.
Definately worth a try - i got quotes from most before settling with them.

Giles,
I've just changed my insurance completely and am very happy. I went from £725 for 10k on the 964 last year to £425 on it with 3k miles and an old vw golf now has my protected 7 years and 10k miles, costing £225. Call hyperformance insurance and ask about their new 'Link' scheme. It was the best deal i could find, and i looked pretty hard.
cheers,
Greg

I am insured through Norwich Union Direct.....31 yrs old, full no claims, garaged over night, no milage restrictions, wife named driver.....£380! Had a very similar quote through Elephant.co.uk....I have found once you get a quote reference number you can play one against another (for a while anyway!)

I'm with Greg's old insurance company - Lancaster. 6K miles a year, garaged with no NCB (since it's on the other car) and think it was about £550. But bear in mind that's "modified" - suspension, wheels etc.

£528 fully comp. with Norwich Union. Gives me fully comp. on a courtesy car too
Limited to 10k miles, and you need a CAT1 alarm.
I've got full NCB, but 3 points on the license, off-road parking, but at a Birmingham postcode, and no garage.
Others were quoting me circa £700+ then the previous owner suggested I should try NU. They offered me £578 then trumped it with one of those first call 10% discounts. I nearly snatched their hand off.
Sounds like I got a decent deal!
Ian.

I used to be with NU, and was happy with them at the time - and they did beat most quotes. Then I bought my daily car in Sept. (which was the same time my Porsche insurance was due) so I called them and said I wanted to remove my NCD, take out a limited 5K mileage policy and that the car would be garaged.
The complete moron on the end of the phone told me that since I was removing my NCD it would now cost me over £2K. I tried to point out I was asking for a limited mileage classic policy, and that most insurers were quoting about £600. But the moron simply said that if I took my NCD off then that's how much my premium went up.
On a related subject - I needed NCD proof off them for my new policy. It took me 4 attempts to get the correct documentation. The first time they hadn't filled in the number of years (it was blank). Second time, it was wrong registration on the letter - etc. etc. Each time you call, you seem to be talking to someone in India. I was very unimpressed when I left them.
