I think its a DIY if you have already mastered the oil changes, the spark plug changing, and exhaust removal. I was a bit nervous I would screw something up... but it seems to have gone alright using the feeler gauge to check the clearances. I only had 2 or 3 clearances that needed adjustment. I used instructions from the books and one of these buliten boards since I had never done it on a 911 before. ( I had checked and adjusted valves on motorcyles before.)

i did it at a relaxed pace...started Saturday morning and finished Sunday night. I went slow and deliberate and also installed 2 race seats at the same time, and had to modify both seat mounting brackets.

It was a bit enjoyable..... but that was about a year ago... so maybe its just that time makes you forget the PITA parts.

I do all the work myself... except if I have to drop and open the engine... still afraid of doing that with the 964 (did so with the 951)...

I also keep the cover in the engine bay off... makes it easier to keep it clean and work on the car. I think this is something car nuts should do. Makes you one with your car.

I'm lazy and don't have much time over. So it's not a DIY for me.

Hey Donger! Looks like all went well with your PPI and you closed on that white C2 Cab. Congrats. I had a car PPIed yesterday and today. Looking seriously at another. Hopefully pull the trigger on something very soon.

I like to think of myself not so much as a tightwad but thrifty - it sounds better - so i plan on taking a crack at DIYing my valves, that is if i find some to buy.

Dr. Jupe,

From the looks of your avatar, I'd say you may have tightened something a little too much

Green,

Hope all goes well with your PPI. Make sure you get a good PPI, I am afraid the PPI I got was a little weak, I wasn't terribly impressed with them, but I wanted the car so bad I didn't get a second opinion. I think all they really did was make sure all the bulbs worked correctly. So far so good though.

Regards,
The Donger
