Vaseline on rims?
I read somewhere that vaseline rubbed on alloy rims helps prevent stains - any truth to this? I was planning to do this tomorrow but found no reference in archives so thought I better check in case it makes a big mess.
Thanks...Marc

I've never heard that, but I would be wary of doing so simply because the Vaseline will hold onto any dust that gets kicked up. It would be fairly easy to clean off and reapply, I suppose, but seems like an inordinate amount of work.
Wouldn't car wax work just as well as a protective layer?

I remember reading about the vaseline also, but I thought it was only for anodized rims (or maybe NOT for anodized rims....... don't really remember), one of the magazines did have vaseline mentioned with rims........ But I agree with everyone else, the stock painted rims should be waxed.
(Okay, checked over on Pelicans board, and the old 911's factory users manual said to use it on the fuch wheels........ http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...=vaseline+rims

vaseline your rubber seals
Picked up a tip from a targa owner to vaseline the weather strips on the car, this feeds the rubber and helps it swell to its original size.
Good tip, am going to try it on my Cab.
Cheers

FWIW: Back when I had a 928S (same wheels as my 964), I washed all 4 wheels, vaselined (noun becomes verb) the two on the left side of the car, and went to the last 928 meet here in Atlanta. My informal/blind poll indicated that the majority (75%-plus) thought the vaselined wheels looked better than the non-vaselined wheels. ( Of course, I did not just slop the vaseline on and let it go at that; I rubbed it in, let it set in the hot sun, and rubbed off the excess.) No break dust build-up, etc, and IMHO they retained their look through multiple washings.

I use Vaseline on my wheels and seals (and it gets on the paint) every winter. Never caused me any issues and been doing it since 1998. I use a low pressure steam cleaner to remove it but it sure does a great job in keeping the salt at bay in winter.
Vaseline works on your skin (in very sensitive parts) how these stories of, it takes the paint off start, escapes me.
Ciao,
Adrian.

MadHungarian - that is what I thought I had read....I'm still trying to find where I read it but I didn't think it was in relation to Fuchs only. And yes, it also did not say slop it on like a dirt magnet but rub it in like a polish...

Page 215 of my 991.1’s owner’s manual explicitly mentions using Vasiline on wheels.

I can recommend using Rimwax on alloy wheels. Easy to apply and makes cleaning the wheels easy,
