Default Why is this happening?

I just removed my engine to rebuild my transmission. I wanted to take advange to do some maintainance while the engine is out, and when i got to the valve coler I found this strange yellow stain.

Does anyone has an idea of where this could be coming from?

Thanks,

Mario

This is probably [if only on one spot] from a bad spark plug wire who is sparking on the valve head cover.........

I was going to be a smart-***, and suggest an antifreeze leak, but I like Arjan's answer. Could also POSSIBLY be a loose plug that is allowing an exhaust leak. Did you have a good look at the plug? Did you by chance notice if it came too easilly. Sometimes the plug connectors a tricky to get seated properly, and mabey this one was flapping in the breeze so to speak. The spark energy has to go somewhere, so perhaps this just shorted out on the valve cover. Baked on preservative?

When you reassemble everything, you should run the engine at night with a spray bottle and see if you can visualize the arcing. I'd say it's a bad wire that's shorting. It looks like the periphery of an area that's been welded.

Thanks for your replies. I imagined that it could be the wire, but I was not able to see anything. Anyway I will doble check.

Thanks again
