Default 964 plastic sill - shark fin gap

I have noted that there is a 1/4" gap between where the plastic sill cover meets the plastic shark fin... is this normal?? I know that the black rubber trim tends to shrink but does the plastic sill cover shrink as well or is the gap supposed to be there.....

thanks in advance!

My car isn't with me today - but I know I have a similar gap. I wouldn't say it's 1/4" though - more like 1/8".

Driver's side 1/8", passenger side 3/16" (just measured.)

The mounts for the plastic pins that mount the panels have some "weasel-room" but I suspect you're fine.

I had the rubber seals on both sills replaced last year. The passenger side (RHD Car) is still fine, no more than an 1/8 inch gap. The drivers side has gone out of shape and the gap has grown to at least 1/4 inch, probably more. I'm sure the heat from the oil line has something to do with this.

The rubber shrinks with age but on most 964s Porsche was kind enough to include some extra length folded behind your wheel wells (front & back). You can just pull the rubber out, soften it with some baby oil or peanut butter and soap and water. You don't need to pull the plastic pieces off the car the rubber will sort of snap back into place when you go to reinstall.

Only thing to watch there is, there are little notches in the rubber strips, designed to mate with little projections in the grooves along the top edges of the panels. You need to sort of "finesse" the strips so the notches and projections engage each other, or the rubber just shrinks back and you're back where you started. (Never heard of the peanut butter trick, I like it!)

My gap is about the same as the rear vertical gap for the doors, looks around 3/16" on both sides.
