Curiosity question. What purpose does it serve having a piece of linoleum under each of the tires on cars that are stored? I have seen this in magazines and many photos... Just wondering..

I think its because after a while the tyres tend to stick to the paint on the floor and when the car is moved the paint moves with it.

Some surfaces will turn brown if you have a tire sitting on them for any length of time. Is there really enough give in linoleum to prevent flat spotting? I remember reading an article about the mold design and special plastic formulation that was compounded for the commercially available tire craddles and they needed something a lot a thicker than linoleum.
