Default Brake pad replacement suggestions please

My brakes squeel like a stuck pig! I am going to replace the pads since the PO may have "track pads" on the car. What is the best pad to use for street use only which make the least noise? Any suggestions as to where to buy AND tips on the actual replacement procedures would be GREATLY appreciated....

Thanks!

I didn't think it was usually the pads that caused the squealing. There are anti-squeal shim thingies (obviously I've never replaced the pads myself.....) and I think the squealing usually means that you have problems with these.

The anti squeal "thingies" snap into the caliper openings and glue to the back of the pads. It cost me $40 for the 4 on the front. Maybe someone knows of some type of glue that could be put on them to reuse the old ones.

they are round and have a smaller round metal piece that snaps into the center of the caliper piston. There are 2 different sizes on each side on the front caliper. Maybe 1 1/2" in diameter or so. When you see them its easy to figure out. My rears only have 2 pistons. I havent done them yet but i am sure its the same deal.

Is the squealing coming from the front or rear brakes? i have just had my complete system replaced i.e pads, anti-squeal, pipes, discs etc. But my rear discs still squeal. I was told by the independant Specialists here (Camtune) that this is a common fault with the early C2's and there is little you can do to rectify it (apparently OPC's spent a lot of time trying to rectify this when the cars were new, but the only real satisifactory result was to upgrade to C4 rear calipers and discs?)..... Not totally convinced about this though???

I am sure you will get lots of different suggestions. I my case, I tried everything I could think of to stop the bad squealing in my front brakes. Finally I purchased Ferodo pads from Pelican Parts and NO SQUEALS. I did not install any anti squeal devices, as the pads seemed to have an anti squeal backing already applied. I could not get the sensors to sit in the groves without modifications and ended up not using them as so many owners have done. I use my car strictly on the street and am happy with the results.

Good Luck on finding your solution.

The pads I used have part number PEL-PP-901819 and description "Ferodo Brake Pad Set, Front/Rear 911 Turbo/Turbo Look (1978-89), Front 911 C 2/4/RS America (1989-94), Rear 911 C2/RS America (1992-94), 911 C4 (1989-94), 911 Turbo (1991-94), Rear 993 (1995-98). Note: WILL NOT FIT the rear 911 C2 (1990-91)".

I needed to correct squealing on the front. These won't fit the rear.

Assuming the area in and around the calipers is clean and free of brake dust you need to bed-in your new pads and rotor. If done properly your brakes won't squeak and will only require you to remember to spray the area where your pads sit inside the calipers with water every so often, cleaning out accumulated brake dust. Rememer that your brakes didn't squeal when they came out of the factory so there is asbsolutely no reason they should now.
