Yes... and no. You're right in that it IS a Strosek design but mine is a fibre glass kit manufactured by Pro-9 in the UK (www.pro-9.co.uk). I suspect the quality is not up to Strosek's originals - but, hey, it looks good!!

NTTY,

No I don't live in the french part. I live in the germen part near Zürich. My girlfrend lives in Biel. In this case the "Röschtigrabe" (swiss guys know what I mean) is not a problem for me. Of couse we could share some Bears....

I would go for the original 964 turbo wheels, they fit more nicely.... But you know, taste, a big problem sometimes.

Dave heres a few pics of a car I once owned,its a Strosek 964 cab built at the Strosek factory.Mods include replaced front wings, front pu,mirrors,rear wheel arch extensions plus a few mods to the interior.

Hi Guys,

Sorry to drag up an old subject. My car has 18inch wheels on. Now I realise that Porsche do not aprove of this and that there may be a problem etc etc. But I was going to maybe look around for some 17 wheels when my current tyres were worn. wasnt too concerened after reading up on here and other places.

Looking around the car today I noticed on the passenger side tyre I noticed a grove on the outer edge.
I'm guessing that its the wing/wheel arch thats caused it, probably going over speed bumps I would imagine.
Any ideas on possible causes ? whats my next step. I realise its hard to diagnose from a distance.

also and this may have something to do with it teh left hand front tyre appears closer to the bumper than the right. only by a few mm but the gap is definately smaller.

265-35-18 Rear
225-40-18 Front

Dont know how to find the width and offset. Just had a look at the wheels and cant see any obvious markings.

Hi Pesty

Well its not the tyres that are causing a problem I would have thought. The width and offset of the wheels are therefore totally necessary to help you out. Can you see any spacers (or shims) fitted? Without this, you might as well just ask your Porsche Specialist for help because it will be impossible to gauge what the problem is. My guess would be that the wheels are off a Turbo model of some sort so the offset is too low and pushes your wheel out too far....thatis you don't have spacers of course...

Re markings, can you see something like 8J near your valve stem on the wheels? If so, the other number might be the offset......if there are no markings then they might be aftermarket and then all bets are off!

Thanks Christer,
Just had another look. no markings near the valve. Pretty sure there are no spacers but the wheels do fill out the wheel arch right to the edge. So Maybe that is the problem.

I will ring up a specialist. I think 9m are around 70 miles away and Im off now till christmas so If they recomend driving up so they can have a look ill do that.
they are the only independants I know of that arnt too far away and they have a pretty good reputation so Ill try them .

I just replaced the 18" turbo twists on my car with the 17" wheels that belong on it (except that I went with 9s in the back instead of the stock 8s). Tramlining is gone. Wrestling the car over rough roads is a thing of the past. No more push in corners. The car is light and balanced now.

With the added tire sidewal height, I'd feel comfortable with stiffer springs (I have M030s).

Given the choice between 18" wheels and regular springs or 17" wheels and stiffer springs, I opt for the 17" set up.

I'll give more reports as I work through the suspension parts. But for now, I am very happy to have gone back to 17s.
