Default Need Help with Unknown Part -- what is this ???

Does anyone have a clue as to what is? My engine case has two (left & right) and they are both located slightly below the chain cases (circled in red) at the absolute bottom of the motor. I'm replacing the crush washers because of leaks and I would like to replace one of the plugs because of surface rust on the bolt face. I can't find a part number and neither can three different Porsche dealers.

JasonAndreas,

I think it is 964 105 171 00 (bolt) and 900 123 131 39 (sealing ring A 16 x 20). Doublecheck with your dealer.

Best regards

Default bolt

hello,

if i am not mistaken that bolt is the bolt that supports lower chain rail. i hope that the rail has not shifted as you removed this bolt!!!!!!! i am not home to research this but i am pretty sure what that is.

The tensioning rail stayed in place and there was an audible click when I put the retaining pin back into place so all is well (but your right it could have turned into a PIA). If worse came to worse I could have just pulled the cover off the chain housing and moved the left side tensioning rail back into place to align the holes. The guide rails shouldn't move if you pull the retaining pins but the right side tensioning rail might. Just as a precaution I would definitely suggest that anyone planning on replacing these o-rings do so knowing that they may have to lower the engine a bit so that they can pull the camchain covers... and the bolt should be torqued to 23 ft lbs.
