Confession time. I have owned a 911 since July 1978. I have pulled the tipstick perhaps a dozen times total. I can tell if the gage is working if it responds as expected. I know how much oil to put in at changes. I view the dip stick as a back up just in case the gage fails, or if you start to doubt its verasity.

I'm glad someone cleared the air...I also have dipstick-disfunction. Can't read the thing worth a darn...especially with new clean oil.

If my car was a patient in need of a blood transfusion, and was relying on my ability to read the dipstick to save his life, he would be a dead man...
