Default Humming fuel pump solved, costs....50 cents

Today I had the idea to solve the humming sound of the fuel pump. I was thinking how to do this and what the cause of the humming was. I suspecter metal to metal contact from the pump, and I found the following cause.....

The bolts go thru a rubber and inside the rubber is a metal peice to prevent over tightning the installation of the pump. This is metal to metal contact to the bracket who is welded to the body. I removed the metal parts and put some rubber [fuel hose] pieces in stead of those. Now we have no metal to metal contact which brings sound to the body. It works........

To remove the pump out of his bracket is easy, just remove the protection plate and 3 bolts......

This is the result. Use some Loctite on the bolts to prevent running loose.

Fixed in 1/2 an hour.........

Sound is gone for at least 75 % less. Worth a try for your car if you have this problem.

Great tip Arjan! I might just do this since my fuel pump buzzes too. But I remember reading somewhere that a buzzing (loud) fuel pump is abnormal and may be first sign of failure. What do you think?

My pump does buzz still a bit, but the big buzz is gone. Since I bought my car in 2001 the pump is buzzing, not more not less. I think it's wear, yes, and I think I will replace it sometime, but you know, the price of it........ it's not cheap

Great DIY tip Arjan! My brake booster hydraulic pump occasionally sounds like a pneumatic drill though. Maybe there is a similar quick fix to that problem?

A lot of the noices can be solved by using a rubber insulation or by re install things. May you could have a look under there.

Yeah, I guess that one of the connecting steel tubes or something similar could be contacting the body and thus create the noise. Could be a good idea to jam a piece of rubber insulation in between. Seems like I will have to peek under the front hood this weekend.
