Where are the mechaniclas for the horn? Could it be a fuse?

Might be the fuse - can't remember if the horns have a fuse to themselves.
There is a brass ring on the back of the steering wheel and a metal tab which sticks out of the indicator / wiper switch assembly which contacts the ring. It might be that your switch assembly is pushed too far back on the steering column and the metal tab isn't touching the ring. You should be able to look behind the steering wheel - (metal tab is on RHS on RHD cars, probably the same side on LHD) and see the tab.
If it's not that, there are two connections in the steering wheel (at least on non-airbag models) so you would need to make sure they are both connected (if you can get to them you could just short them out to see if the horn sounds). The horns themselves are behind the RHS front wheel liner (i.e. behind the headlight). One is earthed at it's attachment to the body, one has it's own earth (which earths in the luggage compartment).

Stewart,
Besides what Dave has already written, it could be the fuse (#3) or the relay. Or, the horns themselves.
If the fuse is okay, listen for clicking of the horn relay as your press the button. If you hear it clicking, remove the mud-guard, then pull the plugs off the horns. Check for 12V as you press the horn. If you have 12V, but no sound, your horns are--of course--failed. The horns are about $35/each from a discount dealer.
Hope this helps and good luck!
