Robert,
Are there any downsides to using plastic on the valve covers? This almost sounds
like an econonically reasonable replacement for the stock covers.

No downside. Carbon fiber could also be used but hard to cost justify as the plastic versions are factory parts used on Type 993 and, although I am not sure, possibly even later Type 964's.

Hypothetically, if someone wanted to make say 12 sets of plastic valve covers, any idea of a ball park price? (figuring Porsche is asking about $1500 - $2000/set)

Buying them from Porsche would be less expensive than making them.

Thanks Robert. Are you going to tour the country showing off your work?

Eric...not sure what the cost would be; but, yesterday I read an article on this company and thought it was an interesting idea (not affiliated, bla, bla, bla):

Bob-
Is the coating process pre-autoclave? i.e. is the gold "leaf" (for lack of a better term) applied in the mold, then bonded to the carbon weave. I am thinking of a layering concept - the other option would be to coat/bond the individual threads before weaving the fabric.

The plating is done after the part is finished.
