Help??-Alternator pulley nut workied it's way off...twice
For the 2nd time the nut holding the fan pulley on worked it's way off. I believe I have the nut torque down enough...I hope. When the pulley subsequently falls off the shaft, the cooling fan works it's way out about an inch, such that the fan blades extend past the fan cover. Any thoughts other than trying to torque the bolt down tighter...? Thanks for your response!

Aside from assuring proper torque, and the condition of all threads. Maybe use a little blue loctite (242) with a new nut? Also, verify the alternator shaft is not bent and carefully inspect the pulley bearing surfaces (local to where the nut tightens against).
Havent heard of this happening before, not sure if I am much help here...

How many ft.lbs are you torquing the hex nut to? It should be 36+-4 ft.lbs. Are you using the smaller sized top-hats(?) behind the hex bolt (i.e. make sure the hex holt isn't resting directly on the outside pulley half)
