A question for those of you with both Cab and Targa experience, when I was shopping, I test-drove both cabs and one targa, the targa was significantly more noisy (wind noise around doors) than the cabs with the top up, and possibly one reason I went with the cab. Is this normal, or was it just a case of badly adjusted targa roof?

Madridcab,

Having had both I would say there should not be more wind noise in the Targa. Both cars can fave sealing troubles. My current Cab is in need of new upright seals at the side windows. I have lot of wind noise and If I do not put the new one one before the rain season I be soaking towels on the floor in the first big downpour. Some of the adjust met in the windows is a common place for extra wind noise. I remember in the "76 Targa I had to back the window down a bit to stop noise as it went up to high and flexed out. When all is adjusted well they are about the same tops up. But in my recollection the Targa was quieter top down. I now have a windstop in the Cab and that brings wind noise down a bit.

Taylor,

I too am a Targa owner. The car is solid and fun to drive with the top off. Keep us posted on your progress, and good luck.

P.S. Welcome to Rennlist, a great site for all your questions

A properly adjusted and sealed targa top should be a little noisier than a coupe, at worst. The seals on either side of the roof where they meet the windows seems to be the problem area. Can be due to worn seals, or maybe the window is no longer in line. This can all be fixed and adjusted but I don't think it's easy.

Hi,

in my honest opinion, the Targa is the best way to go, its best compromise between a coupe and a Convertible. Its fine for Track use, well i have done so 5 or 6 times, and as long as you keep your seals in good condition, leaks should not be an issue.

I have had mine for a couple of years and absolutely love it. I have just had a top end, remap and H&R lowered kit fitted by Ninemeister and even though its 14 years old, it still turns heads every time I go for a drive.

Here's a latest picture ( just because I am proud fo it !).

This is getting somewhat offtopic, but I haven't been on Rennlist much the past couple of months and maybe I havn't notcied the cars of AJKOK1 and Investit in the past- but what beautiful cars!!! A retro look in the 964- my favorite 911- awesome! The green color is a hue that reminds me of some of the early 1970's 911s (I've got an old Car & Driver from the early 1970's that tested 3 variations of the 911, and one of them is a bright green!), and of course the Carrera script of AJ's car is the early 1970's RS, and other Carreras....great looking cars guys! Just wanted to say that

Investit- any way to show us a bigger picture of your car?

Now that would look really great with the black Carrera script on the side with the green!! I wonder if anyone can make a high quality reproduction of the carrera script like AJ's, but magnetic so you could put it on and take it off if you don't want something more permanent?

Very nice car!

John, I notice there are some stains on the floor -- -- the new moderator will have to be told!!!

Andrew, I just saw John's lovely green targa today, and it's much prettier (and brighter) in the sunlight.

John - and others ... I agree the lime green is great. My '76 Targa was a metallic lime green and pretty close to your cars color John. I loved it and had many nice comment - but the funny thing was - every Porsche broker I spoke with when I was ready to sell said "everybody wants Red, Silver or Black. You'll never sell that car". I just happen to like colors Other than R, S, & B, and I am happy to see you agree.

If it helps you can pick up replacement side "carrera" script deals online from www.porshedecals.com, I believe they are actually based in Malta, but they offer a great service. You also get a fair few colours to choose from.

John, lovely colour Green and a great car !!!

My favorite early 911 color is signal orange, (I think it's SO. Oh, I like Targas, but the you can't beat the openness of a Cab, and it's not too bad with the windscreen up. Wife has a 91 Black/Tan Cab

Joe,

Those aren't stains, they're leaves . Yes, the picture just does not do the color justice. I'll have to fool with my cameras settings to see if I can get it close to its real color (Signal Green).

Here's a guy that went a little overboard with the paint scheme....I realize we're far off the original topic of the 964 Targa, but oh well....the fun of this board! This isn't a Photoshop car- this was an actual car being sold on ebay a while back!!
