Default Replacement steering wheel

Hi there. I'm after a replacement steering wheel which will need to be a bit smaller to accomodate my long legs, make getting into 5th gear a bit easier and to brighten things up as well..

I've seen that Momo do some nice 350mm wheels which you can get with a Porsche crest and a 15mm spacer to bring the wheel away from the dash as well.

I prefer the 355mm RS-style wheel but can't find any info about spacers for those. Does anyone know if these exist and has anyone any experience about the virtues and/or issues with these wheels (or any other replacement wheels).

Thanks

Sorry Leo (Gerard ?) not spent a great deal of time exploring wheel options, however I would be interested to know where you have looked at already? Ebay has some good deals on Porshe wheels from time to time!.

Leo,

I'd recommend the wheel that I've got fitte. It's slightly smaller than the sotck wheel & much chunkier. Check out a picture via the link to my very basic web page below!! £200 through www.design911.co.uk. Easy to fit & much better on the stock wheel.

Check out OMP and Sparco for spacers, OMP has also an adjustable spacers for both tunning and racing. Everything between 4cm amd 6cm. Following steering whells have 34, 35 and 34 cm diameter. The one that is not Momo has a different pattern of the holes so you need to make extra holes in case you have the OMP spacers.

I have the 930S Wheels on my cars, from AJ-USA. Airbag wheel on the 964 and non-airbag wheel on the 944. I got them both with crests.

AJ-USA Airbag Wheel

AJ-USA non-airbag wheel

The smaller Momo wheels obscure the gauges a little, I can live with it but have considered turning the speedo.

Hi Leo, I have the Momo wheel with a Porsche Crest (see Pic). It was a great improvement over the original.

If you prefer the OEM RS type wheel, I suggest speaking to Simon at Essential Styling (www.essentialstyling.com).

How do you guys feel about losing the airbags extra safety feature...
I love the idea of a smaller, beefier wheel, but fearthe loss of the airbag..

C4TT,

As mine is the euro spec C2 from 1990, it never had an airbag, so there is nothing lost. If it had an airbag from new, I would probably have replaced it with a smaller airbag wheel so as not to upset the airbag management systems.

Hi,

I've got a Momo Competition 350mm which I like, but (for me) it does obscure anything after 120kph (until 260kph ), much of the oil temp gauge, and some of the warning lights. Not ideal..

Dave.

If you fit a spacer the steering wheel will move higher and will not obscure the instruments. I have fitted a 60 mm spacer to a 340 mm wheel and I can see everything very good
Cheers
PS
I can fit a "Snapp off" which will extend the wheel 20 mm more. Makes it easier to get in the cra

Do you wear a seatbelt or harness? If so, the airbag is less of a benefit, as you'll be restrained.

Also, do you wear glasses? They'd break if the airbag went off, sending glass into your eyes.

If your arm is over the airbag at the time of explosion (eg if you are turning the wheel) then the airbag will break your arm.

...and even if it works as planned, being an early (ie less sophisticated) airbag, the force will probably breay your nose etc.

Oh, and a friend of mine who had an accident and the airbag went off, had hearing problems for months afterwards. It makes quite a bang.

Personally, I've never liked them!

I've always been rather disappointed my car doesn't have airbags. Now, I'm not quite so bothered about it!
