Dead Optima
After fooling around with my two year old discharged Optima battery, and clogging up post time, I finally took it back to the dealer. It would not take a charge at the shop, either. Result? A brand new one for no cost. Did anyone else out there have a similar failure?
Well, as I've written before, a Panasonic battery of similar technology was original equipment in the first generation (90-97) MX-5 Miata. Like no OEM battery ever, you should see the raves it gets on Miata websites. People getting 12, even 14 years out of them. Our '96 Miata is still on the original battery, cranks like new.
That said, I'm not sure how they respond to being flattened or left unused for an extended period. We've only used our Miata's battery for jumping other cars, it's never been on the receiving end of a charge.
