pA1000: What happens if you lose the fob?
Someone round here must have lost the transponder fob before. I keep worrying that I will, when somewhere far away from home- and the car will need to be craned onto a flat bed..
I have a spare door key, and a little red master box thing that came in the glovebox of the car: what does this do, and - are spare fobs available?
Something I'd rather be prepared for, knowing how absent minded I am..

Maybe that IS the spare. Or maybe its just junk the PO left in the car, and FA to do with the alarm...
At work but will take a pic when I get home tomorrow night.

I am a bit jealous. I haven't got a transponder and I thought it was something only fitted to commercial airliners and military aircraft. IFF mode - how does that work?
Please explain.

Transponder: Electronic package aboard a telecommunications satellite that 1) receives transmissions from earth (uplink); 2) changes signal frequency; 3) amplifies the signal; and, 4) transmits the signal to earth (downlink). Modern communications satellites use 24 or more transponders and can be C-Band, Ku-Band, or both. (See also: C-Band, Downlink, Ku-Band, Satellite, Uplink)
You burned all that cash on mods and didn't get telecommunications satellite electronics? You've been had, mate.
The immobiliser bit on a fob is called a transponder, too-http://www.caralarmuk.com/acatalog/info_20000.html.
Maybe that's not exactly what I meant, but you know what I'm getting at..
