Not quite the same as 964. Looks like the 993 has a damper built in.
First, ball joints don't have to be removed. The adjustment sleeve, once loosened and turned all the way allows separation of the tie rod halves. Actually, I loosened one joint and it would not pass the bottom of the strut, hence the simpler alternative. The article also doesn't address the keying of the universal onto the steering shaft. There's a double spline that lines up with a roll pin. This could cause quite a lot of frustration to a DIYer. It also neglects to advise disconnect of battery and wait for at least a half hour before removing airbag to reposition steering wheel. Dangerous.
Good intentions by the writer but it proves again...be prepared to keep an open mind when accepting advice and realize the need to be flexible and creative. Reminds me of all the distributor belt scenarios, solutions and theories I've read here. What a hoot!
