Default Help please - Horn blows continuously

Just replaced my turn signal switch. Took nearly 2 weeks to get here. Installed it, buttoned everything down, hooked the battery back up, turned the switch to check everything out and .... woa, got a blast of those horns.

I'm going back in to check things out, but I would like to know if anyone else has run into this and has an easy solution. I suppose I'll be scratching my head today.

Darn.... I really wanted to get her on the road today. Been sitting on stands while I change to a sport exhaust. Can't wait to hear it run - but that horn has got to go!!

Advice anyone?

Marshall,

The horn is activated normally via the horn push grounding an active supply to the slip ring fitted on the underside of the steering wheel boss. I can only guess that in your work to fit the new turn signal switch you have somehow grounded that supply to the slip ring.

I can't think of any other obvious reason.

And, in the meantime, you can pull either the relay or the fuse for the horns. At least you can drive the car....

Marshall, have yuou taken the steering wheel off and taken a look?

Thanks for the reply's. I took the wheel back off and I think Computametic had it right. The wires were grounding out against the back of the wheel. Oops.... helps to put the wires back in the right place. I was just so darn anxious to fire her up I guess.

BTW - took her out for a run. And I can say that changing the stock muffler for the Fabspeed is the absolute best thing I've ever done on a Porsche. Gonna rename this car.... BAD BOY 2. It sounds AWESOME. Can't wait till I can make the dual exhaust conversion. Got my valence and the pipe, but not the patience. Maybe in a month or two. For now..... WHEEEEEEEEE!

Marshall,

I agree about the exhaust. I've got the Fabspeed dual outlet on my car .... and it sounds AWESOME!!!! Even on tickover it sounds impressive - but you wait 'till you get to 5000rpm!!!!

Glad you sorted the horn.
