Fan belt sensor replacement
My fan belt warning light recently came on and under guidance from Mr. Bagadonuts I checked the fan belt sensor. Sure enough the little wheel had come off. Now I am wondering, how difficult is it to replace the little bugger? Anybody done this before and can give me guidance? Thanks in advance.

Yep - I did this job last month. Takes about 8 minutes.
Unplug the cable - I think it's got a locking clip on it.
The switch is held on with one hex head bolt - forgotten what size hex wrench. Undo the bolt and it's yours.
Install is easy reverse.

Beautiful. Where did you source the part? I sent an email to Pelican, but I don't know what the part number is so I tried to describe it. We'll see if they can decode it.

When I did mine, I took it on the chin and bought it from the dealer. I was uncomfortable driving around without it, and did not want to wait for a UPS package to arrive.
My receipt shows part# 964-106-035-03, which lists as an update of 964-106-035-00.
About $80, tax included.

Brian,
For your 1989, original part number 964.106.035.02 has been superceded to 993.106.035.00. You can purchase from a local dealer (some offer PCA discounts), or via mail from several Porsche dealers who discount (typically around 25% or cost + 15%, which is about the same). There may be non-Porsche sources for the part, too.

I found a wheel/bearing in a surplus store for a $1.00 CDN attached it about 2 years ago and it works fine. Better quality than OEM - it's made of aluminum with a nylon surround.

I caught mine before the wheel came off, but after the bearing (really just a bushing) had frozen. The internal hub of the busing was spinning and eroding the plastic post that holds it to the housing. I freed up the bearing and cemented the inner hub to the housing, so that movement occurs where it is supposed to. 6 months later, all is still well. Might be a useful thing to check now and then, to see if the wheel spins freely and without wobbling, before it comes off.
