Default Steering Wheel removal

Hi guys,

This is, I'm sure, a stupid question - but here goes. I have an 89 C4 Coupe and I'm about to change the steering wheel. The only problem (so far) is that I can't see, for the life of me, how to remove the padded horn push in order to get to the main securing nut.

It's a non-airbag car so it's just the horn push. I can see no external means of support - no screws, nuts etc. - so I'm assuming it just pulls off but I'd welcome some hints from the cumulative Rennlist knowledge before I get aggressive and do some damage.

Once I get to the nut I'm sure other problems will arise - like getting it undone and then getting the steering wheel off the splines. But that's another story!!

Best regards

Dave

I don't have the same steering wheel, so this may not work. Look on the back side for small holes. That is the access to the screws that hold the pad.

Good luck

Springer,

I thought of that, based on my experience with some other cars - but there doesn't seem to be any. I'm prepared to be convinced but feeling around doesn't reveal anthing at all obvious. Actually looking is pretty difficult given the lack of space. I guess the US cars all have air bags so, as you say, a different wheel anyway.

Thanks for the thought though.

Best regards

Dave

Perhaps it is pressed in place, and you just muscle it off. I would definitely conform this before applying brute force.

Sorry I could not be of assistance.

Thanks Kevin, that was EXACTLY what I needed!! A little bit of convincing that brute force IS required!!!

Thanks again,

Dave
