Default Hall sensor replacement

Dear, hope you all are doing well.

964 C2 from 1991.

I gathered a replacement hall sensor and removed the plate that holds the sensor from the distributor.

The actual sensor if riveted to one plate, which is “somehow” fixed to the other.

Problem is that one of the rivets that holds the sensor is hidden y one of the plates.

Anyone know how should I do it?

Thanks a lot.

The new sensor in the bag looks to have rivets already in place, which would be weird if this is considered a spare. What does the bottom of the new sensor look like? Are the rivet heads not mushroomed out and are just studs, ready to be expanded?

Also, does it look like the sensor can be slipped out of the plastic housing it sits in?

Update:

Replaced the sensor.

Needed to drill out the old rivets to remove the old one.

As the new one had short rivets, I also drilled them to use a M2 bolt, nut and washers to secure it in place.

Fault 34 resolved.

I'm curious...can you tell any difference in how the engine runs now?

I've had fault 34 randomly for 15 years, but no apparent issues with how the car runs. I believe I've read a fault 34 only slightly alters the ignition timing?

Great to hear it got resolved!

Did you take any photos of the process that you can share?
When you say the new one had short rivets, do you mean that it was impossible to use the rivets because they did not protrude enough to be mushroomed?
So you drilled a 2 mm hole through the rivets for your M2 bolt?

As for changes, note that after I partial engine rebuilt, I just wanted all to be perfect, including no errors in the Scantool. I got the error but did not notice any special problem, but just wanted to be al clear and decided to try to change the sensor before going for a new or rebuilt distributor.

After changing the sensor, noted some slightly change in engine sound, much better and smooth now.

Can really tell about performance, still running in the new components of the engine.

In any case, it is not good to have the timing altered to avoid possible detonation, which is what it does if I am not wrong.

As for the installation itself, sorry, no more pictures.

Yes, the rivets were too short to protrude enough to be mushroomed, and yes, drilled the hole to insert the bolts.
