I have just found that the drivers for lock spins. It does unlock and lock but the key continues to spin.

I have seen that apparently I need to get inside the door to tighten a screw there. At least that is what was posted on the forum for the front passenger door.

has anyone experienced that with their 964 driver door?

Yes, not uncommon and yes, the solution is to get inside the door and tighten the screw. There are threads here going back decades that discuss the problem.
