I often wonder when I see people reject cars because they are a tip car if they have ever drove a tip car.
Shifting every 5 seconds in traffic or even on a serious curvy road is way over rated. Bring your manual cars to the Black Hills and see if you can keep up with my tip.

But to the other point - I end up using it as my daily around LA all the time because of the traffic. My 86 targa is a manual and it just sucks driving it in traffic through the canyons where I live. So that leaves me either the 964 tip or a 992 gt3 and I really hate putting traffic miles on the GT3 lol.
For a while I thought about doing the conversion to a manual, but I realized that if I did that, I would probably actually like it less for my needs! I suppose because I have the 86 manual it makes that decision easier, but still, they're very underrated cars and a great bargain because people just discount them outright.

Oh it's definitely the case. I think I say this every time this topic comes up, but a manually shifted tip is a very fast thing. Occasionally I'll take my tip cab (talk about undesirable!) up the Angeles crest and it's amazing how many of the "sports purpose" drivers of all 911 generations are like rolling speed bumps. Seems the last thing people invest in is racing/driving education.

100% agree, we love our Tip 964, it gets the most use of all our cars (964/997/992RS, 458/488/296GTB etc). My kids at 17/18, also love the Tip 964 for its versatility and classic cool look and feel. Took it to the Alps few years ago, mixed it up with modded and faster MT 964’s. The Tip easily dropped everyone for 3 days. Drive it manual and learn to use the box, it’s a seriously quick but also a super useable classic car, for cruising and traffic the auto mode comes in handy. Ours have upgraded suspension, bushes, brakes and is set up as the RS. Love that car. We come from racing, the kids started karting when little and in competitive GT series today. Spend a little more on advancing driving skills and all cars can be driven much quicker and safer than you think. At times I join Porsche and Ferrari centric trackdays, my god the average skill set is low while they never stop talking nonsense.
