There are two gents on the 993 board who may be of help recommending a shop in the Lexington area: Greg Fishman and Anir.

As far as price, I'm looking at an excellent '89 C4 in Arkansas with 117k miles and the uy is firm at $20,000. I'm trying to get it done for $18,500.

Some things to look for: Cylinder to head leak should always be checked for on early 964. It's rare, but it can be there. At 100,000 miles, it's either probably been fixed or just won't happen.

Distributor vent kit needs to be installed if it's not been fitted since they did not come with a vent kit from the factory

Early '89 C4's might need a rear tail lamp vent kit since the very first '89's didn't have this...

The '89's do not have the dual mass flywheel, so that helps in that department.

Check all electrical accessories to insure they all work, and, most importantly, insure all the warning lights that need to come on when the key is first turned on do indeed light up. It's becoming common to hear about prior owners removing warning light bulbs to mask electrical problems.

I agree with Paul in that an '89 with 100k would be in the $18k to $20k range depending on it's condition. Less than $18k if it's very rough...

Good Luck,

Jay

from what I've heard from the mechanic that works on the car is there is an oil leak coming from the cylinder head...is this the "cylinder head issue"? it is very minor from what he stated...

also the transmission downshifting from 3-2 is "slacky" (his term) has been for over two years, but doesn't cause issues...is this a tranny rebuild waiting to happen?

they did a leak-down recently, #2-3 were at 67-68 while the rest were in the 70's...is this something that I should be concerned with?

Thanks again for all the help...as a 911SC owner i know what to look for, but these are a different animal...
