Default Carrera RS suspension

Does anyone know if the front dampers/shocks and springs from a CarreraRS can be used with the stock support mounts/tophat or is there something about the design that requires you to use monoballs?

Dear Jason,
Good question. I would say are in theory the standard mounts will allow mounting of the Carrera RS suspension system.
However my advice is;
When all is said an done they were designed to be used with monoballs front and rear and you may find that you run into some practical problems like it may lower you too far or not far enough. I do not have a standard set of mounts and monoballs to compare to say which is correct.
I know somebody in the USA had to use home made spacers to make the RS rear shock absorbers fit. This I strongly not not agree with unless you are also a structural engineer and able to work out loads.
My opinion always is, use the whole kit. If a setup is designed for monoballs use them. Remember that suspension holds the car up. It is designed for safety and includes a serious structural integrity element.
Not using the monoballs may also result in wheel alignment problems which cannot be adjusted out.
I would also advise you speak to somebody like Colin Belton at 9M and get their expert advice.
Ciao,
Adrian

The RS struts require the monoballs. See the picture below, which shows the RS strut on top and stock strut on the bottom. Note the length differences from the shoulder on the shaft to the end where the top nut attaches.

When I bought my car, I had the RS suspension removed (stupid me) but wanted to keep the monoballs. However, that was not possible due to the differences illustrated by Bill above.
In the meantime, however, I have had the chance to acquire another RS setup with very little miles on it - and I love it!

My original plan was to do as you say and "use the whole kit" unfortunately several (major) pieces are on factory back-order so it could be a year before Germany has them back in stock. That led me to my question here. I may have a source somewhat local that has part of this in stock so I will try there next.

Thanks Everyone!!!!

I have a like new full set that I removed from my Cup USA. Send back the parts that you have since it is incomplete and buy the full matched set that I have.

Best,

Don
