I nearly said this in the other post since I guessed you'd ask.

Basically - yes, they just prise out. I usually use a flat screwdriver, and then put some cardboard over the gauges next to it (otherwise you'll damage the paint on them when you're levering the gauge out). You'll need vaseline or something to slide it back in once you're done. I have a feeling that speedo or tacho needs twisting as you remove it to clear the steering wheel but never had those two out myself so not sure.

Upto you about yanking out gauges, but it might spoil your dashboard......

Try this article from Robin Sun's site (it is the same for a 964 as a 993) for a safer approach:

http://p-car.com/diy/alugauges/

There used to be a Pelican Parts guide to removing a 964 instruments but I cannae find their technical articules any more.

Oh, if your tach has an OBC you'll likely need to remove the wheel to remove it, otherwise tachs need to be twisted as they are deeper at the bottom than the top.

Guage popped out without a problem !

Screwdriver wrapped in masking tape + a careful prise was spot on.

Don't use vaseline when re-inserting the gauges, use rubbing alcohol. In fact, any time you have a rubbery substance (silicone, polyurethane, etc.) that needs to be temporarily lubricated to help ease insertion or removal use rubbing alcohol.
